new keypad

I bought a Kensington Pocket KeyPad for my laptop.

When you type on it, it displays the characters how it should.

but it doesn't function like a keypad on the side of a full-size keyboard. A music notation application I use (finale) uses the 1234567890 at the top and the keypad for different functions.

Customer support @ Kensington said that I can't use it that way.

I was wondering if there was an application around (cant find any on Kensington) that will make it function how I want it to.

any ideas?

I would expect that the manufacturers of the key pad know best and if they say it can't be done, then most likely they are right.

I've only used a "plug in" keypad once and found that it had only numerical functions and nothing approaching the multi-function of a keypad on a full sized keyboard.

I have seen a full sized keyboard (USB type) being use with apparent full functionality on a laptop but then, that removes a lot of the point of using a laptop. The reason it was being used in the instance I refer to is because the original keyboard had suffered from being given a glass of alcoholic drink.
