Backing/Restore Outlook

I need to migrate the account setting for outlook express from one windows account to another. She is a new hire taking over a previous employee. We want to keep the database of recieve emails and address book and folders. How is this done? I can not find a backup or restore feature. Am I just not looking in the right places?

One thing to watch for:

Save all data to C:\mailackup not the desktop. This will enable you to easily import mail and addresses into the new user's account.

Ok, so first, that was mainly for outlook express but I think I still got it worked out. But hows this: Can I somehow mirror two account settings or address and mailbox info? example, Someone loggs onto the computer on the domain when here at the office but logs into thier machine locally when out of the office. Problem is with pop mail, the mail is deleted from the server when downloaded. Of course I could keep all my mail on the server but thats CRAZY.

What do you recomend??

OK. So you want two different accounts to access the same mail box?

Just set the new user's "store folder" to the same folder as used for the first user. -- see this

You also mention them accessing the mail while on the domain, but also accessing it when not on the domain. This is a problem. The only way to do this is to, as you say, leave messages on server until deleted.

Why would sharing your outlook become a problem if you log onto a server. The mail is pop mail so this should not effect this yes? If it was like exchange, I could see a problem there. Or if the mail was stored on the server... Which leads me to my next question. What are the advantages and disadvantages of keeping your files on the server other than the obvious:

Pros: Everything is constantly backed up.

Cons: When your not logged into the server, you cant access your files. :censored:

You are correct. If it was an exchange server, you could only access files from within the domain.

POP is a bit different. It uses a username/password combination to access e-mails from anywhere.

Advantages and Disadvantages of leaving mail on the server are:

One thing you may want to test, is whether or not the mail will be downloaded to the new user after it has been marked as "read" by the old user. This will require you to use one common store folder, so every time a message is downloaded once, both users can see it. This is also why I mentioned the domain as a problem. If the store folder is on a computer on the domain, and the user logs in from outside the domain, the mail cannot be seen.

I believe your best option is to leave messages on the server.

Ok, yea but this only pertains to outlook express. This does not help with Outlook the full version....

You can share outlook express and outlook mail.

But, I would still like an idea of what you are trying to do.

From what I have seen so far in this thread, it seems different users, accessing the same mail account is the best route. You will need to leave messages on the server for this to work though.
