I recently purchased a D-link DI-524 Revision E router. If i am connected directly to the modem, i can use bittorrent at about 50 kb/s upload speed and get pings on google and yahoo and cnn at like 50-200 ms. when the router is in between (and wired, i decided i should fix it when its wired first before moving on to wireless) the computer and cable modem and im using bittorent, pings go up to like 4500-5000 ms. and the internet crawls. If i scale back my upload speed to 5kb/s i still get pings like 3000 ms. Only when i exit out of azureus/utorrent/bittornado do the pings return to normal.

ANy ideas?

D-Link DI-524 Rev. E Support

Slow Internet connection Print

If you notice your Internet connection slowing down or your router becoming less responsive, do the following:

Step 1 Disconnect the WAN cable

Step 2 Power cycle the router

• Turn the modem and router off

• Turn the modem on after 20 seconds

• Wait until the modem to re-sync with the ISP

• Turn the router on

Step 3 Login to the router and click on the Status tab

Step 4 Select Log from the left column and then look to see if the log is being populated with “Out of NAT Buffer” entries.

If you see the above log entry then there is a possibility that one or more of the computers on your network has been infected with a virus (SoBIG, Nachi, Welchia, etc.). If you have a virus scanner, make sure that it has all of the updates and scan all of your computers. For an online scanner as well as removal tools for these viruses, you can visit sites like http://securityresponse.symantec.com and http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Does this help?

well, im at work right now so i cant check, but even if there is this report, im 99.9% certain there is no virus as i have auto full scan every night at midnight with auto updates at 11:50 pm.

looks like this thing is going back to the store. it literally takes 5-10 minutes for the slow down to become unbearable, and im surely not, as i think any other resonable person would believe, going to recycle the power every 15 minutes.
