silver_fox Posted April 4, 2006 Report Share Posted April 4, 2006 Hello,I currently run win2k, but want to upgrade to xp pro sp2 but I have a lot of data I will need to keep.Should I a) get the upgrade (which should keep all my data?)B) just get xp pro & back up my data and reinstall ?Someone told me I could use something called partition magic to create a new partition and install xp on there, and then copy over any data I wanted once it was installed. Im no expert on upgrade editions of windows but you cant beat backing your data up to disk. Partition magic is an excellent tool, but remember, if for any reason you have a power out, transient/spike or anything else that could cause the computer to crash diring operation of Partition magic then it could leave you snookered.. better to be safe than sorry imho !
