A little connection as in a SATA connection?

It's difficult to help you without knowing whether your new and old drives are IDE or SATA. You should note that IDE and SATA cannot be placed on the same cable as they are not compatible with each other. That does not mean they cannot both be used at the same time, but you will need to have your IDE and SATA seperate.

You motherboard should have two IDE ports (which support 2 drives, master and slave) and up to 4 SATA ports.

i REALY DONT KNOW....lol

The New one is a Ultra ATA100 7200 RPM 8MB Cache which has the ond type ribbon connection

The original HD I assume is the SATA which has no ribbon connected to it just a small plug in along with a small plug for power

The slot where the port for the ribbon hD is empty

as you can see I dont know much about the lingo

Not to worry. I think you have given the information I need.

Your new HD (Ultra ATA100 7200 RPM 8MB Cache) explains what it is right in the name. Ultra ATA100 (or 133) means IDE. SATA will explicitly say SATA on it, or have the small connector like your old drive.

You will need to plug your new IDE hard disk into one of the IDE slots on your motherboard, and attach a power cable to it. Note that with SATA you use either SATA power, or Molex power. Do not use both.

You may also need to go into your BIOS and change you IDE settings if they are disabled.

OK

I THINK i GOT IT

THE NEW hd WILL CONNECT TO THE MOTHERBOARD IN THE OLD FASSION WAY WITH A RIBBON CABLE GETTING THE POWER FROM EXTRA POWER CABLE LEAVING THE ORININAL AS-IS RIGHT..?

Sorru about the cap locks........!!

Yep B)

Just make sure you don't change your boot device. Although as I said above, you may need to enable IDE.

Try just installing it and see what happens before you do anything. If there are problems, post here.

Is the drive starting up? (making noise and spinning)

If not, your may need to use a different power connection.

If it is, you may be using the wrong IDE channel. Make sure you are using channel 0 (or 1) and your drive is either set to cable select (recomended) or Master.

If all of this is done and still nothing happens, go into your BIOS (usually by pressing del immediatley after power on) and see if there are any settings about IDE, or drive settings. You may need to set these to AUTO or enabled.

Reading book may have ribbon cable backward let me change it

..!

Make sure That the Red line on the Ribbon cable is next to the pin 1 of the drive connection.

If you have connected the ribbon cable the wrong way round you may have damaged the drive electronics as ALL one side {i think it is all the even numbers IE: 2,4,6 etc } of the ribbon cable are connected to 0 Volts (or common) which would have shorted out some of the signals from the drive and may have damaged the drivers.

Hope you are not that unlucky
