Old system has WinXP Pro, is WinXP Home good enough for new system?

My old system had WinXP Pro. I gave that system to a relative. I can get WinXP Home for $25 from a local office store. Ive looked at the various Pro vs Home specs and tables, but the only thing I think ill be missing is Remote desktop and file encryption.

Is there anything else that a home user might use that WinXP Pro has? Is WinXP Pro more secure out the box?

well if ur in a network pro does not hav a security exploit which lets u log on admin in safe mode

For the general user, XP Pro has no advantages over the home edition. The exploit mentioned above, if real, will be fixed by MS if it is a serious threat although I have not heard of it.

If you can get a genuine copy of XP Home for the price you say, go for it but, bear in mind, if it isn't genuine or if there is anything at all not quite right about it, you will not be able to use it for very long.
