shuhornoplenty Posted May 14, 2006 Report Share Posted May 14, 2006 hello, i just bought a PANASONIC PVGS 300http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panas...rder-Review.htmnow i CANT import the video onto the computer, its is a sony VAIOhttp://img.epinions.com/images/opti/bc/5c/...-resized200.jpgi installed the usb program and used the USB cable, but it just wont transfer! it just gives me the usb icon on the toolbar! i click on it and it gives me the properties, it doesnt give me "TRANSFER FILES" or w/e. am i missing something? am i supposed to use a firewire cable? Then you may try to swich the USB port, and check the USB port version, if it is the same with the camera, you can find this on camera documentation. Connect the camera by USB (it must be power off), and after that press the "power on" button, wait a little and go to My Computer, there must be a new driver, go on it and copy the files.Try those ways!Wish you succes! Usb 2 is faster, but because of the way it transfers data, it is not good for video. Using USB for video usually results in lost frames in your video. Theoretically USB 2.0 should be faster than 1394a but it doesn't actually run at that speed and every speed test I have seen even firewire 400 beat 480 and thats not including firewire 800 or 1600 or 3200 (I think there is 3200). 1394 is also peer to peer. USB has been trying to catchup for so long that I've seen a couple articles saying some manufactures don't even want to support it but have to because its still included with many products. -pops- Posted June 14, 2006 Report Share Posted June 14, 2006 First version or not, it is the version that is the most used and most installed on Windows machines thus making it the norm and quoted figures are thus correct.I have not doubt that there are development versions of Firewire and USB that will leave the currently available versions at the starting post but it is very doubtful that you, I or Cleric have them available.There is the way that the two systems handle data to consider as well. If both USB2 and Firewire were even approximately equivalent, one or other would have died from lack of use by now. The fact that they co-exist and are both subject to development work (as per your admission) shows unequivocally they both have a useful place in modern computing. dadyassa Posted June 14, 2006 Report Share Posted June 14, 2006 Going back to the poster`s problem, when I got my Sony camcorder it would not work very well with USB, only to transferring stills, video was no good.After doing various searching on the web about capturing video from digi camcorders, firewire was always reccomended, I fitted a firewire card and have had no problems since.I still insist that you really do need firewire for the transfer Mr shuhornoplenty.Have you sorted it yet ?
