Dustin Posted May 29, 2006 Report Share Posted May 29, 2006 OK, I consider myself to be pretty technical but I have never seen a problem like this...I have an Emachines m6805 laptop, ATI 9600 Mobility GFX card, XP SP2...I have reinstalled windows several times so it is not the default setup however...One day a long time ago, I shut the computer and while it was in the middle of going into standby or it was already in standby im not sure, I removed the battery from the laptop and it shut off imediatly. Then when I turned it back on, the Graphics Driver was missing (I use the Omega ATI drivers) so all I had to do was uninstall the driver in device manager and press scan for new hardware and it detected it and it worked. Unfortuanately now I have to do that every time I reboot the computer, and I tried the original ATI drivers and the same thing happens, I have tried chkdsk... I cant figure it outI am sure simply reinstalling windows would fix it but I would rather avoid that...Please help!ThanksDustin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

cozofdeath Posted June 2, 2006 Report Share Posted June 2, 2006 Try this...Open your device manager, go to view, then "Show hidden devices".Right click on the problem device and choose uninstall. Once the device is uninstalled go through and make sure its completely gone including, I would run a registry scanner at this point or manually remove any existing registry entries related to it. Restart and when the New Hardware Wizard asks about finding the drivers tell it where the driver would be, cd/folder and make sure you completely install it and hit the Finish button.
