Three os'

Recommended Posts

Before you do anything, consider if your computer is capable of using XP64.

A 36GB (?) hard drive is very small for a modern computer and to have two operating systems installed on that seems to be pushing its capabilities.

Is the hardware on the machines capable of coping with the demands of 64 bit? There is a lot more to using a 64 bit O/S than bunging in a copy of a new operating system.

Assuming that you do have the right conditions and capability, I am wondering why the machine wasn't fitted with a 64 bit O/S on its initial installation.

Lastly, I am unsure of why you want to do this. Windows XP is effectively an updated Windows 2000. I cannot see a reason for having both on one machine. Windows XP and Windows XP 64 bit are the same system albeit the latter is built for a more modern hardware format.

Anyway, having said all of that, the safest thing you can do if you want to go ahead is install hyperos click here. This will do all you want and more.

I have 36 GB SATA hard drive with two partitions dual booting windows 2000 windows XP sp2.

I have installed an IDE drive and would like to load a third OS windows XP 64 bit, and boot all three.

What do I need to do?

Well i really have to agree with -pops- on this one , Whats your reason for wanting three ( 3 ) differant windows systems on the same computer.??

Well if you really want something differant to mess around with then why not triple boot with something else? Like Ubuntu Linux for instance.. Ubuntu Linux ( click here )

You could even have four ( 4 ) systems on your computer , Two on each hard drive, Windows 2000 , Windows XP , Ubuntu Linux , and The 32-bit Menuet OS..

Hey it's differant and new, Might be fun to learn them.. ;)

Shipit Ubuntu for free CD's..

So what do you think.??

I am running Suse on my other machines, I have plenty of hardware for 64bit everything is compatible. I have proprietary software for PLC interfaces that will only run on win 2000, I have tried to make the software run on XP. It just will not run, the guys that wrote the software can't even make it run. I just wanted to boot them all. I was really wondering if it was possible. The partitions on my sata drive are basic, I believe they had to be to dual boot, or at least the info I had said it had to be. This may not be true. Also, I have three 300 GB hard drives in a raid array for storage, the 36GB drive is one of those superfast raptor drives. I just wanted to stick a plain old IDE drive in my box load 64 bit and boot them all. Possible?

As long as you install Windows systems, the Windows boot manager will do fine.

The information are stored in the boot.ini file on the root partition of the first installed Windows system. You can manually modify it, e.g. the default Windows, the count-down time, or the boot manager texts. See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=289022 for details.

hmm. didn't do it. Let me post this again. I have a SATA drive with two partitions running XP pro and Win 2000. I put and IDE drive in the machine and loaded windows Xp pro x64. I can select the SATA drive in the Bios or the IDE. There is no 64 bit option when booting from the SATA drive. and NO Xp pro and Win 2000 options when booting the IDE drive. Any ideas other than third party software.
