atekigrl27
I just finished building my desktop PC. Besides all hardware I added, I installed a DVD/RW Samsung SW212-B. I'm sure I connected the IDE cables correctly as well as the jumps & CMOS settings as HDD1 Master & CD as Slave, etc. It came with its driver & I even updated it to the latest driver in case it was that issue, but whenever I boot my pc for the first time, the DVD-RW doesn't show. I changed settings on CMOS to boot first to the CD-ROM and I have the same problem. All I can think is that the DVD-RW came with that issue from factory. Is there anything else I should do. I wish I had another desktop to install it there and see if I have the same problem, but I don't have another desktop.
-pops-
Are you saying you have the HDD and DVDRW on the same IDE cable?I would suggest that HDD on one cable (IDE 0) and DVDRW on a separate cable (IDE 1) is the way to go.

I just did it. Each hardware has its own IDE cable and also changed jumper settings for PriM (HDD) and PriSlave (DVDRW). After I boot up, I got same problem. DVDRW doesn't show up on device manager. After I do a "restart", I'm able to see the device.
-pops-
I don't understand. If both devices have separate IDE cables then it is necessary that the jumpers of both devices are set either to MASTER or to CABLE SELECT.
