Glenn Pope Posted June 27, 2006 Report Share Posted June 27, 2006 this is a toshiba laptop. pentium 4, 512 mg, 40 gig harddrive. It has been turning off abruptly when trying to run disc cleanup. The battery does not hold a charge for very long, so I thought that it will need to be replaced pretty soon, but i didn't think that it would effect the performance when the computer is plugged in. Thanks for any ideas, GlennIf you have a faulty heatsink fan on the CPU, in severe cases it can overheat in (apparently) zero time. It would be a good idea to install some temperature monitoring software, as suggested by Pat Willener, to keep a check.
