svchost.exe causing error and restart

Hi,

I am having a little problem here. I have a gigabyte ga-g1975x motherboard. It comes with onboard sound Sound blaster live 24 bit with all the latest drivers installed. (I have a sneaky suspicion this is causing the problem) Recently I have been getting some issues with the OS. The first is BSOD with "irq less or equal" with usbhci something. It's too fast for me to read it completely since the computer restarts automatically. The second issue is that sometimes I get a popup that says svchost.exe 0x7c914bfe trying to write to 0xd9840f0e. Illegal operation and then another popup saying to save all application and windows will close in 30 seconds. I tried to look into the dump files windows produce with windbg but i guess i am in way over my head here. Anybody can tell me how to track down the problem. Thanks a lot for your time

It sounds to me like a virus ( blaster or sasser ), to find out if this is this particular virus, turn on your computer with the network cable unpluged ( NO network attached), with this, the computer wont turn off.

I would try running sfc.exe to see if your system files are ok, that should tell you if your usbhci.sys is corrupt. If that doesn't find anything I would remove that sound card driver, check to make sure there are no resource conflicts in your device manager, then update all device firmware especially your chipset firmware. You could also try to restore. Hope something here helps

This does sound like the Sasser worm (or blaster) but, your Windows installation should not have to put up with these things if it is at all modern.
