Hi folks,

As an ex-member of the PCA Gamesroom I'm looking for a new home. This seems pretty good and it's good to see it is moderated, humour is good, abuse is not.

Anyway, to the point of my first post. The one thing which I don't particularly like is these damn annoying emoticons(smiley faces) and I know it may well put off others from PCA.

I'm not suggesting they are immediately stopped/banned but a judicious use only of them would be appreciated. Same with the avatars.

I know you're probably just about now thinking "who is this guy, first post and complaining already!", but I

do think they spoil rather than enhance the site.

Erm, I suppose I'll now let you flame away....

Hi NWL, welcome to the forum. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. I am afraid that you will have to take us as you find us. But 'flaming', never, most of the people are fairly tolerant from my own observations.

Hello NWL, firstly, welcome to the forum.

Next, if you check under "my controls" (top of page) then "board settings", you can have your own settings so that you do not display certain objects. Among these are avatars, signatures and images such as smileys. :o

If you do this, then those of us who like to put in a bit of colour can do so, whilst you can view the forum as you wish to see it. :D :P

Hope this info helps, and I hope that this will appease other exPCA members who feel the same.

I look forward to seeing many new posts in the game zone, regards, Mr. Mouse. B)

ordep, I was previously known as Non Welsh Local but reduced it to NWL for ease of use. Anyway, will other ex-Gamesroom folk now frequent this forum? I did post over at PCA asking which forum would be used and didn't get a definitive answer, although I was recommended this site.

Although I was very much a newcomer to the now defunct Gamesroom, I immediately took to it so I was very disappointed to see it's gone.

Hopefully more will move over here.

By the way everyone, thanks for the welcome and the hint regarding the "beloved" emoticons. However by disabling them you still get the colons and brackets left. Oh well, can't have everything!

Welcome NWL and Ordep. I can understand your feelings towards the Emoticons, my pet hate is pop-ups and other intrusive advertising.

Stick around and you'll find this site everything PCA was and more. Good humour, decent bit of banter and not heavily moderated. I'm sure as true gamers you will both be an asset to this site.

I can understand your point on Avatars also, especially having to look at Craig, the site creator and owner, every few inches.

I was tempted to put a little Emoticon in there but don't wish to upset new members.

Oh, I don't know though, I'd better live up to my reputation. :P :P :P :P :P

Hi there!

I cant remove the brackets, colons, semi-colons etc as that is the basis of the emoticon.

The members only use them in moderation anyway, so their shouldn't be that many.

Craig.

well NWL the point of this forum is not to be the pcadvisor forum but to be almost like the lounge was, informal and friendly, people use the emoticons and avatars to express themselves, one emoticon can say how people are feeling like a happy smile :D ,also the ability to post file attachments is a great bonus for troubleshoooting peoples problems, the game zone is led by paul2002 board and if he thinks the game zone should be a emoticon free zone we can discuss it. flipa.gif
