network problem

Someone on another topic on another of your forums suggested I come here and read all the stickys to solve the following problem. I may be wrong or missed the necessary ingredient, but I haven't found it yet. If anyone knows which one I should read, please let me know. Thanks folks!

Otherwise:

I've got an in-house network. I can log into a business elseware locally to work generally, and I work through their comp.with 'Remote Desktop Connection' ON THEIR OWN DESKTOP, THROUGH THEIR OWN COMPUTER shown on mine. I would like to do the same within my own network on another system I have at another close location within my own network. I tried this in the same manner as I did on the other business through 'RDC', but it wouldn't work (I wondered if it was because it was the same IP). I needed to know do I need to work through a third party program or can I do it through 'Remote Desktop Connection', and how?

Have you read the pinned 'Network Fundamentals' (part 1, 2, 3) on top of this forum? It really helped me to set up my home network after trying without success.

Are you on the same Local Area Network (LAN) as the other computer you're trying to get to, or are you on a separate network? If you're both connected to the same hub, switch, or home router, most likely in the same building, you're on the same LAN. If you're in a completely different building, with its own connection to the Internet, you're not on the same LAN.

If you're going across the Internet, you'll either have to configure your router to allow the Remote Desktop session through (unless your PC is connected directly to the Cable Modem or DSL Router, which is very risky if you're going to allow remote desktop), or you'll have to connect to the remote network using some kind of Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before starting the Remote Desktop session.
