VACkillers Posted July 5, 2006 Report Share Posted July 5, 2006 hi all this is my first post and to be honnest looking for an answer for this i dont know where else to go as other places wont give me a straight answer....Have got WinXP and never use the windows restore, if windows gets messed up i prefer just to do a formatt anyway..... i have 2 harddrives C and D, C: of course is where my windows is and anything to do with windows is.... on my D is where i have my games installed and various backup programs and music....Now im wondering if deleteing the system volume information folders from my (D) drive will mess up anything i have installed or have sitting on the D drive..... like music... i have a system volume folder on the D thats taking up 1.7GB on space and the date that it was created was all the way back in 2003.... so if i deleted that particular folder, am i going to find out later that a program or mp3 thats that old wont actually work now because i've deleted the sys vol. folder? im moving back to england and plan on taking the spare D drive back with me, so im looking to free up a lot of space without loseing what i have already. the total ammount of space i could get back from deleting the sys vol. folders would be 7GB, but im fearfull im going to lose something if i delete it....any help would be fantastic on this.....thank you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted July 6, 2006 Report Share Posted July 6, 2006 You say you don't use System Restore but, do you have it turned on?The contents of the System Volume Information folder should be deleted if you turn off System Restore. It may be necessary to reboot to ensure deletion.Do NOT delete the folder itself. It is part of the XP operating system and there could be some unwanted consequences if it gets messed up. VACkillers Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Share Posted July 7, 2006 ahhh thank you very much indeed.... its what i thought coz i was actually going to delete the folder itself... yes it was turned on in which case i recently turned off system restore for the 2nd drive but it never removed any files, still using up 7GB on my D drive...so should i jus turn it off for both drives period?
