XPonential
I am fascinated by the fact that the service status quite clearly says that e-mails are working ok going as far as to say that the service is working correctly and there are no problems! Perhaps the person in charge of status indicators should talk to the sender of this reply received @1413 today:Dear CustomerThank you for your emailWe apologise for the inconvenience caused concerning this matter, we have engineers working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Please continue attempting to login as the situation is currently being worked. We thank you for your understanding.RegardsTalkGas Support TeamSo, as an ex electric/gas/phone "customer", I'm glad to see they're working so hard on my behalf!! It would probably be wise not to adjust any OE settings - just persevere as they suggest.
P;3
I have so far not had the test mails returned to me; but neither do I have the e mail link available from the home page, despite what the home page says; I have even tried it from a completley different location but still "no go"

I can send a message using my talkgas account but I can’t receive anything sent to my talkgas account.I have a sneeky feeling that these have changed; someone who I COULD contact by mail has had problems with HIS and told me that the ports have been changed; but how does one find out?And I still have the mail page as "unobtainable"; I DID suggest to them that maybe they update the server to include the spam folder for US to tell THEM what is and is not legit; whether they bother to do that is another matter :
djohn
I really can't emphasise enough to people who use this service to look for another mail client. From personal experience of dealing with one of our forum members over the past 18 months of problems with Talkgas, it really isn't worth the trouble. There are far better mail applications out there that work first time every time without throwing a wobbly at the slightest excuse. :(I realise there are a few of you using this and I mean no offence at all, its just friendly advice to let you know there are mail applications that are far better. :)
P;3
DJ; I think that those of us involved with this discussion and the vanished server, do also use alternatives; I for one am glad to have found others who do use this "service" and are able to share our difficulties ; I am hoping that the server will be back up soon, but those of us who DO utilitse them are intruigued to know why the system IS failingI hope that no one objects to our continued discussion on this? djohn
Of course no one objects to you discussing this issue, we are a help forum after all. I think I made my position quite clear in my last paragraph. It was/is just well intentioned advice and I mean no offence whatsoever. Please continue to discuss your problem and I'm sure other members will chip in with sound advice if they feel they can. :)
P;3
(thanks DJ; it is just nice to find other souls in the same boat for once! )an update to the talkgas lost souls ( NOPE do NOT get excited; the site is NOT back on :( )I have spoken with the help desk and they were apparently unaware of the site being down and even THEY cannot open the web mail page; the suggestion given is to "not to hold your breath" for a "resumption of normal service date" B) my guess is that their server has had a MAJOR crash and may be being completley rebuilt; but as to why the service page states that ther are no web mail problems, when we know there ARE is really incredible;the other "nice one" of course is that with all the spam that normally goes there, I bet the server will be completley overloaded with mail; I THINK that mail IS getting TO it as nowt is coming back to me; ( or maybe they are just throwing it all out?) :P (of interest, if anyone using any other browser ( except IE ) CAN open the web mail page would be useful to know)
Bluejay
I tried using Firefox and it lovingly declares "server not found"! I hadn't thought of all the spam clogging up their works! Thanks for the latest update. As do like my talkgas e-mail account it has its uses and will be very sorry if this is not rectified. Just beginning to realise just how much I used it now it has been off for a week!
BlueNose
Hi EveryoneThought I would drop a mail about this as some of you may not actually be aware of the following details. Talkgas servers are administered by the ISP Supanet. As you may or may not know Supanet have been in some difficulties over the past few months but things seem to be settling. Supanet are aware of the problems with the talkgas emails but are in no hurry to get things back online. My advice would be to move yourself away from the Talkgas email and onto your other email accounts as it could be quite some time before this one is resolved. If / When I get more details I will provide an update....Bluenose

P;3
something else that has occurred to me; as far as I know talkgas only does dial-up packages; and now with more and more people on Broadband, maybe they are in a loosers market? djohn
Just removed a post I made a short while back. On second reading it did not come over in print with the humour I intended. :(I found that by tapping 'Talkgas' into google one will find this problem as been around since at least January 05. :)

But from what you are all saying it doesn't look like it is going to be soon!Still a new week and who knows what that might hold!

P;3
an interesting point; occurrred to me, the web page remains out of sight..yes? (and all mail inaccessible?); so , I mailed talkgas from my other address to ask what is happening , AND got a reply from the support desk; BUT; if talkgas IS off line, then how did THEY get to read THEIR mails and reply to it if WE CANNOT ?
