Mac vs. Windows....MAC Posted July 8, 2006 Report Share Posted July 8, 2006 We just got the new Verizon Fiber Optics service installed, and along with it came a new [wireless] router. We also have another linksys WRT54G routerThe new router is configured specially for verizon fios (home users cannot even view the host and domain name), but it has horrible range and loses wireless connections with our computers throughout.Is there any way to configure the old router (Linksys WRT54G) to connect to the new router (Actiontec...?) through an ethernet cable. I have tried using one of the wired ports on the new router to go into the receiving internet port on the old router, but cannot get it configured. -pops- Posted July 8, 2006 Report Share Posted July 8, 2006 The whole operating principle of optical communications connections is different to the POTS system and equipment made for one will not function on the other.Having said that, though, I know of someone with an optical wired in (or fibred in) modem which is connected to a standard wireless router.So, is there an ethernet connection on the router that you could connect to a different wireless router? -pops- Posted July 9, 2006 Report Share Posted July 9, 2006 So it seems that you can do this, provided that the ethernet connection you have from your cable system carries the already converted signal for the Internet, that is ready you plug into your computer, provided the router has an ethernet input (which a quick check at LinkSys shows it does) you should be OK.What concerned me initially was that the router was a combined modem/router.
