new computer, fresh xp install, slow performance

Hi all,

I have a company issued IBM T60. This laptop is brand new and has a fresh copy of xp professional, all the latest device drivers, fresh copy of office etc. I havent even used this machine for work yet.

The laptop was very fast after installing all of this software. However, after adding this machine to the company domain, internet explorer, my computer, control panel etc have all slowed down tremendously. It is taking 20-30 seconds for the window to even pop up after double clicking it.

I have installed firefox and that seems to zip right along way faster than ie.

I have also removed the laptop from the domain and the computer speeds back up again (folders open instantly, internet explorer pulls pages instantly).

What could be causing this problem?

I think you are going to have to have a word with your network admin. It could be that your configuration for the company network is slightly out or it could be that the network is just slowing it down and there is nothing that can be done. But the person you need to talk to is the network tech!

Yeah, Im probably going to have to. I know that its not the physical network because I have a dell d600 connected to the same domain and its way faster.

I think the domain/group policy somehow is causing the slowdown. I looked in the event viewer and I had an error related to the group policy.

I keep getting an RPC locator as well.
