erdega79
Since couple of days ago my computer got really slowed down. So I look at the task manager and see that cpu usage is at 100%. I only open internet explorer and it appears IE uses so much resources . I don't know what to do, it really slows down a computer and I can't do much of anything. I ran some antiviruses, anti spywares but to no avail Anybody have any ideas to remedy this ?
-pops-
When you look in Task Manager (Processes) you should be able to see which program is using the resources.Have a look and tell us please.
erdega79
Hi, it's IEXPLORER.EXE but sometimes it's also "System Idle Process"
bvw
"System Idle Process" is 99% here..... which means my machine isn't doing anything much... it's 99% idle.
erdega79
ok I understand that, but what about when explorer.exe is using 50% or more
cozofdeath
Thats a little high for explorer.exe. Mine is at about 26.5K for mem usage and 0 for the cpu unless I open something then it goes to 2-4 for cpu. Is your that high all the time? I noticed something interesting while looking at the processes in taskmanager.IE - 3 Windows Open60,000K mem usageFirefox - 3 Windows Open25,500K mem usageFirefox - 3 Window tabs25,100K mem usageFirefox2 is about 2megs higher. Anyone running IE beta 2 (or opera) that can post their mem usage? IE opens in a seperate process each time so there will be more than one in the list, while firefox uses threads and one process (supposed to be faster :D ). Not trying to get off topic just wondering...
johnj229
You might want to take a look at this site. I googled "IEXPLORER.EXE and it came up with alot of informational sites about this. It is a parasite of some sort. http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/How_can_you_remov..._percent_of_CPUIf you can make a tinyurl of this, it will be easier to open it up.Hopes this helps. nanna
I just want to make sure that you have checked for spyware or other nasties that could be the cause of this. Any random toolbars appear lately that you don't remember putting on there? Does IE work just as well for you as it always has? Has it slowed down lately?what spyware protection do you use?I recomend spybot SD personally, but there are tons of good ones out there.
