qthf108 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Share Posted July 24, 2006 I am having problems fully installing Windows Media Player 10 for use with VCast music for Verizon.I am getting the message "It was not possible to complete setup" when I try to install the player.When I looked at microsoft.com for troubleshooting, I got the steps This error is often caused when Windows Media Player Setup can't write files to a directory on your computer, which can happen if you're not logged on as an administrator. For more information about user accounts, see Windows Help and Support.If you're logged on as an administrator, the error can occur if the Administrator's group doesn't have write permissions to the directory SystemDrive\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents. Change permissions for the Administrators group, and then run Setup again.To change permissions, do the following:1. Right-click the Documents folder in SystemDrive\Documents and Settings\All Users, and then click Properties. 2. In the Documents Properties dialog box, click the Security tab. 3. In the Group or user names box, click Administrators. 4. In the Permissions for Administrators box, make sure the Allow box is checked for Full Control. 5. This software comes as an integral part of the normal Windows operating system.Are you saying that WMP is not there or that you have a different version (WMP 11 perhaps)? During my calls with verizon, they told me to uninstall and reinstall WMP but the same thing happened. This being so, it is really their responsibility to remedy the situation.I would suggest that you do a System Restore or install from backup to a time before this happened and get expert advice from the software manufacturers.(Note that I've just checked the "contact us" on verizon web site and it comes up with:We are upgrading our website to serve you better Thank you for visiting VerizonWireless.com. Our site is temporarily unavailable while we upgrade our systems. qthf108 Posted July 25, 2006 Author Report Share Posted July 25, 2006 See that is the thing, when I called them (multiple times) yesterday and I finally got someone who was helpful, our ultimate situation was that it would not work because WMP was never fully installed (so it could recognize my phone as a wireless device to sync to). He went out of his way to find that original quote I put on the first page from microsoft.com, which says that without proper administrative functions WMP may not ever fully install. BUT, I can't fix that without that security tab, which I do not have access to, even as the computer administrator.I know it all sounds very odd, but that is what brought me here because I am totally baffled by it all!
