Enable double IP address

Hello,

we are developing a special software for which we need the ability to assign the same ip address to several network adapters within the same windows computer.

When I configure 2 network interfaces to the same ip address, connect them to 2 physical different networks, one adapter gets the ip address '0.0.0.0' and is therefore disabled, as windows recognizes this conflict.

In Linux I can assign the same ip address to several network interfaces and an application can accept connections to this ip address, whereby it does not matter on which network adapter the other participant is conntected.

I need this functionality also in windows.

Does someone know how this control function can be disabled under Windows?

Thanks!

Wolfgang

this was not my fault - your homepage reported an error, that the topic could not be saved!

When I went back from this error message, I could have seen my posted message - I haven't seen any duplicates.

Hi Wolfgang,

Sorry, I don't know of a way to do this in Windows. It would probably require editing of the Registry. Does having 2 IP's assigned to different Network Cards cause any problems because the same IP Address is assigned to 2 different MAC Addresses? I believe communication between computers on the same LAN actually utilize MAC Addresses. How do you get around this in Linux?

Sincerely,

the computers have up to 4 network cards and are interconnected with crosslink cables - so the 2 network cards don't appear in the same network at the same time.

In Linux I can just assign any interface any ip address, even 4 times the same ip to each interface. Linux is internally very well structured - I can get any connection establishment over any of the network cards to an application listening for connections on the one and only ip address.

This works fine.

Thanks anyway for the answer.
