I have the standard Harman/Kardon speakers that came with my Dell computer and worked correctly but yesterday suddenly went silent. I looked to make sure the plugs were all in, I removed them and plugged them again, etc. and I don't know what else one can do to see whether they can be saved...or ready for the incinerator room...If anyone has come up with something similar,I'll appreciate any suggestions. Hello and thank you pops and Pat Willener:Pat, I did check and recheck buttons, plugs, etc. I never made any changes on these speakers ever since I bought them with the computer 6 years ago and I'm the only one using this so this IS a mystery...Also, I use them very little, though when I do use them I REALLY need them! :)pops,Have you checked in Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel to see that everything is connected and adjusted correctly?I did as follows:In the "Volume" page, it was set in the middle. A narrow long window was all highlighted but nothing on it. In the dropdown it said: "No sound" and "windows default", should I put it under "Windows default"? Though I never changed anything before so if it worked this way...In the "Sounds" page, under "Sound scheme" it showed a narrow window highlighted but nothing on it. Dropdown had: "Yamaha DS1x Native Audio". I clicked below it on "Volume" and in the last column under "Line" (don't know what "Line" means here) it had a check placed by "Mute" (could this be it? Who knows!). The rest of this chart and the few other volume charts...were all like Chinese to me! Then I attempted there to try their Troubleshoot...but it was SO long and SO complicated with technical terms and all that, though I really tried it...it took me nowhere!I dug out my computer invoice from Dell and noticed that they list the speakers as: "Yamaha XG 64V Wavetable Sound" which is different from the one inside my computer...could this be it? Who knows! I don't think Dell will help but, do you think I should call the manufacturer which I think is (as it's printed on the speakers) harmand/kardon?... Adela Posted September 15, 2006 Author Report Share Posted September 15, 2006 Hello again to you my friends, to let you know that I went again inside the Sounds & Audio and deleted the check that I found placed by "Mute", hastened to try it...and lo and behold! The sound came back. So it WAS easy (if I knew what to do) LOL!Thank you all again, and again!!! Adela :)P.S. I'm very puzzled though that if I never changed anything inside or outside the speakers, how come they worked for 6 years and only now had stopped???P.P.S. Luckily I'll now be able to find out if I can fix a number of other electronic things that stopped working in my apartment...
