error messages when booting up

Whenever I boot up my windows 98 second edition pc, I

get these messages below. The pc will not

allow me to click on the START BUTTON UNLESS I RIGHT

CLICK. It also won't allow me to add my PalmOne

program for my Treo 650. Please advise. Below is what it

says when i boot up.

X WITH A CIRCLE AROUND IT / Services.exe

Cannot find the file 'Services.exe'(or one of its

components) Make sure the path and filename are

correct and that all required libraries are available.

! ENCLOSED IN TRIANGLE / DESKTOP

Could not load or run 'Services.exe' specified in the

WIN.INI file. Make sure the file exist on your

computer or remove the references to it in the WIN.INI

file.

X WITH A CIRCLE AROUND IT / SYSVCS

This program has performed an illegal operation and

will be shutdown.

If the problem persist, contact the program vendor.

CLOSE

Hello, and welcome to the Windows Forum!

I remember Windows 98 (SE) very well; it was more stable than Windows 95 - yet I remember that I had to reinstall it about once or twice a year. The error messages you are getting indicate that you need a Windows repair or verify install.

Reinstalling Win98 is very easy - especially if you create a batch setup file with Batch98. Use Verify=1 to run a verify install.
