Problem with home network

I have a 512kb/256kb ADSL internet connection with a Netcom NB1300 plus4 router. Connected to the first port on the router I have a 5 port switch. Both my desktop and my laptop connect to the internet through this switch on ports 1 and 2 respectivly. Both can access the internet fine, but I want them to network with each other.

I ran the network configuration wizard as per the instructions on this page http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/g...m_lanparty.mspx allowing file and printer sharing. The desktop is called DESKTOP, the laptop LAPTOP, and the workgroup is called HOME.

When I click on "View workgroup computers" both computers show up for eachother, but when I try to access it I get the message: "\\Desktop (or laptop, depending which computer I am using) is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have acces permissions.

The network path was not found."

I have windows firewall disabled, but I am using zone alarm personal firewall... I hope thats all the relevent information. Any help would be appreciated.

In ZA / firewall / zones are there entries for the other computers?.

No other computers. Just my network devices. The wireless card (which I dont use), my network card, which it connects to both the internet and the other computer through, and something called "Loopback adapter."

EDIT: Well your reply has helped me to find the answer. I messed around with adding the computers to the zones and eventually it got it working. Thank you very much.
