Colonel Sanders Posted October 21, 2006 Report Share Posted October 21, 2006 Hi, I just got a new computer and currenlty have Windows XP 64-bit and Linux Ubuntu on my computer. (I have a 64-bit processor, as you might have already guessed) At the moment I have an ethernet line hooked up to my modem and it works just fine in Linux. But, when I log on into Windows, and open up Internet Explorer, it doesn't connect to the server. I tried reinstalling my Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem using the software it came with and I did everything correctly but when it tests it, it reads "Make sure all connections are plugged in correctly and try again". I've done this over and over, with both the ethernet and USB cable and I get the same message everytime, so Windows is having a problem reading my modem. Can somebody walk me through this because I dislike Linux with a fiery passion and would really like to get the internet working back on Windows so any help is greatly appreciated. Also, the sound doesn't work on Windows so it could be a driver problem? I'm a newb so please be patient with me. Thanks. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Alan2273 Posted October 21, 2006 Report Share Posted October 21, 2006 That is strange because I have XP 64bit running on my spare computer and I cannot connect with any Linux distro whether it is an install or a live CD.Mine is a cable modem and when I just use it for Linux there is no problem, but since putting XP64 bit on to try it no more connection to Linux on my spare machine.So mine is the reverse of yours. cozofdeath Posted November 1, 2006 Report Share Posted November 1, 2006 I haven't used a 64-bit system but I read people have got them working by just plugging them into their NIC via ethernet not USB and I think by not install software. Have you tried uninstalling the software, restarting and hooking the modem up with only the ethernet? I don't think there are 64bit drivers for surfboard modems.
