elango Posted October 26, 2006 Report Share Posted October 26, 2006 Hi Friends Iam using win2K and we have six computor sharing with one dsl router for internet browsing and 16 port ethernet switch. I didn't see any problem past two years. But last one month we have a very similar problem each computers. We configured each system as ip like this 192.168.1.2 to x.x.x.7 the router ip is 192.168.1.1. The problem is: when ever my computor booting the router conflict with my computor, and other computor also cannot browsing. At the same time the router's LAN light frequently blinking. My service engineer check all the possiblities for this problem, he cannot found any reason. Then i remove dns no from my computor, Now all other systems browsing correctly, and router also works well it means LAN light constantly glowing. After this problem i reinstall the OS, that system works well. Now we facing the same problem from another two computors. I have changed the router setting as DHCP and checked with ipconfig all other three computors working fine, they automatically asigned by router ip as 192.168.2.103 and 192.168.2.105. But this particular computors show ip as 164.254.163.124, 255.255.0.0 and gateway 0.0.0.0. Anything i did wrongly?Is there any solution for this problem without reinstall the OS. Please guide me. Not really sure which to reply to but I think you mean 169.254.163.124, 255.255.0.0 and gateway 0.0.0.0. If the ip is a 169.254.. you have a dhcp addressing problem. You may want to see if another computer is giving out ips, like internet connection sharing. Only the dsl router should be. I would check any address assignments in the router and check the tcp/ip properties on the computer to make sure settings are correct. Hope it helps. What router do you have? I just check it the all the systems there is not installed internet sharing in any systems. I have DSL router ("Xavi Technologies" make) i think my router only give ips to other systems. I dont know how to check the tcp/ip for router. Do u mean internet protocol (tcp/ip) in local area connection properties?At present i got one other solution from my service engineer for temporely. He install a proxy in a system and share it to problem facing system. now i can browsing but not able to download mails with outlook. You get one of these when the DHCP server cannot hand you an address. In your case it sounds like your DHCP server is a router, so you would have to connect (serial, telnet, web) to the router and check the DHCP settings. With your router I think you can connect through the web interface by opening a browser and going to http://192.168.1.1/. Once in you will have to find Lan Settings or DHCP settings or something like that. It should have an address range that tells the router what addresses it can give out. You have to make sure its enough for all your computers and leave extra ips for any computers like a laptop that you might connect and disconnect at any time. There also might be a setting were you can choose the router ip. Its usually best to keep it at something like 192.168.1.1 and have the router give out higher address like 192.168.1.15-47, that way the router keeps its static address and no address conflicts happen. Once you think everything looks fine go to the 169.254. . computer and open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew". That should give you a good ip.
