Boa Constrictor Posted October 28, 2006 Report Share Posted October 28, 2006 I was sick with my PC not functioning properly, so I opted for a format/reinstall. Since I had a tiny C partition, I tried to merge a small H with it, which prompted in the PC not being able to reboot again... I guess that was, because I had a hidden partition on H, which I had no longer even remembered...No problem - I had saved all the content of C and H on another Computer, so I went ahead, formatted C and installed XP. Everything went fine, C had XP on it, was now 20 Gig, H 10 Gig had reappeared, though it asked to be formatted, I (60 Gig Game partition) was completely intact as planned.I went along and workjed on finding drivers and installing until 3 in the morning. Lots of restarts necessary - everything went fine.This morning I went back to work on it - the system just kept shutting down till I decided, I would start from scratch if necessary, booted from XP CD, it didn't alter any data on C, but everything went back to normal again, only I had a copy of all the files, which I had transferred to H back on I. I continued to install programs etc., made all drives available as shared folders on the network, accessed them all from the network (including H, which just turned out to be too full to hold the additional data, which I tried to transfer to it from another PC).Then I quit for some time, had been working on it for an hour again, when now I suddenly notice, that H is labelled "Local Disk" and not accessible.I tried system restore, but it gave me immediate warning, that changes made to H would not be reversed, because it may have been excluded from restore points.I still have a backup of most of the data, so formatting wouldn't be a huge loss, yet this troubles me, because I surely don't want to live with constantly losing that partition. Scarecrow Man Posted October 28, 2006 Report Share Posted October 28, 2006 Open Disk Managment. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management. See if you can format or change the label of the drive from here.Yes I have those options there, but is there a (n easy, free of cost) way to regain the former status of that partition (all the data etc.). And, more important: If I rename and format (again) that way, will the partition stay put? That was actually my place for safekeeping my documents etc., in case C should fail for some reason and I'd need to reinstall windows... But if this partition keeps vanishing now, the data stored there are in even greater danger than on C.... :0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We are only talking about 10 Gig, but this HD is just 80, which nowadays isn't really a lot, and I don't want to have this "hazardous" unused partition lying around here...
