can someone tell me how to browse a network?

this was possible in Windows 2000NT, but i cant seem to find i back in WinXP Pro or Home

in Win2k it was like this:

enter my network locations screen

then you can get somewhere which shows the whole network which you have at home...

after this you can browse though the network locations

i dont know howto do this in WinXP Pro/Home

please help

btw: do you need a seperate cable for networking? [1 for internet, 1 for network]?

I really don't know if XP Home is different, but on XP Pro I do the following

  • open Windows Explorer
  • click on the + mark left of 'My Network Places'
  • click on the + mark left of 'Microsoft Windows Network'
  • now I can see all domains and workgroups on the network
  • clicking on a domain or workgroup gives me all servers and workstations inside that entity

There is also a 'My Network Places' icon on the desktop (which I have never used before). But I have just tried now, and it also contains a 'Entire Network' link on the left.

Regarding your question about the cable(s); if you do not use a wireless network, yes, then you will need cables to connect the different computers. If you need help with setting up your network, you better place a new post in the Networking Board.
