LonelyPixel Posted November 6, 2006 Report Share Posted November 6, 2006 Hi,I've got 5 network connections on my notebook: Ethernet, Firewire, WLAN, Bluetooth and VPN. WLAN is connected most of the time and Ethernet and VPN are disconnected most of the time. Bluetooth and Firewire fortunately don't show up in the "notification area". But it seems that Explorer just can't remember which icons I want to hide and which ones to show. I don't want to see Ethernet and VPN - when VPN is connected I even have the OpenVPN application with its own icon running so I don't need to see it anytime. After every login, all settings are reset to "hide when unused". Is there any way to permanently hide (or if not, remove) these icons from the tray area? They're eating up space for nothing, that's annoying. Especially because they all look the same and I first need to move the mouse over them to find out what's actually going on. (Ok, the Wireless icon is easy to find, but all others are plain useless like this!)The icon hiding works for almost all other programmes, why not for this one?There doesn't seem to be too much discussion on the web about this, partially a couple of years ago. None of them found a solution. Is there any at all or does Explorer simply suck in this concern and do I need to invent a hack for it?
