Volume control

This used to be on the task bar down near the clock but is no longer there. When I noticed it had disappeared i went to Control Panel > Speakers and Audio Devices and am told there are no audio devices installed yet they are connected and are working, I just can't check the controls in Windows so don't know what is turned on or off, mic for example.

Any ideas gratefully received as always.

Should have mentioned before, already tried that and get the same message, no audio devices installed.

Can you check the Device Manger if there are any errors (yellow exclamation mark) visible? Are there any audio devices? Can you run a search for new devices?

Something else I should have mentioned, I've already tried that and there were none. While I think of it, I also tried going into Properties and clicking on Uninstall but got told there was nothing to uninstall. So back to the drawing board I guess. Doesn't really bother me at the moment except that I was planning on using the mic soon and could not remember if it was turned on or mute.

Means you do have an audio device in the Device Manager? What type is it? Can you try to find a newer device driver for it, and install it?

Hi Pat

In Device Manager it is shown as Sound Max and a new driver was installed maybe as far back as 6 months. If it comes to that, the small problem could quite easily have cropped up then and I just had not noticed it though I don't think so. The system I have is a Creative Inspire 2.1 2400. Their site says no drivers are required. I have been over everything again, checking and rechecking all that has been said so far and I have the volume controls back, in part. There are now only 4 instead of 6 or more stretching across the screen, but it gives me a little more control at least.
