Windows Crashes (BSOD) when transferring large amounts of data

Hi,

I have a new machine, everything is installed ok, however when I transfer data anything over 1GB really from my external (USB2.0) to my internal hard disk I get BSOD which does a memory dump.

I have reinstalled windows several times as I thought it was a bad install, but still not luck.

My components are

AMD AM2 Dual core 4200+

MSI K9N Platinum

1GB Kingston DDR2 RAM

Western Digital WD3000JS SATA2 (Internal)

Seagate ST330082 (External USB2.0)

ASUS GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2

Windows XP Pro Licenced.

Also, the external hdd is fine at transferring lots of data when plugged into another machine. So i don't thinks it can be that.

Any help would be great.

Oh yeah - the BSOD screen says

KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

Does the event viewer give you any information.

Hi,

There is nothing in the event viewer about the crash !!

Just did a test, I cleared the logs tried to copy loads of files at 23:41 (time) and it crashed to BSOD after about 5 seconds,

I then rebooted and there was no error events and only events after 23:43, so nothing.... sorry

How do you transfer these data - copy-and-paste, or drag-and-drop? Can you just try the alternate method?

Hi Pat,

I have tried both methods, I have even done it using xcopy in DOS. still crashing, not sure what to do !

I have seen that microsoft page, there is so many things...

I dont think it is the RAM and I have removed each one and tried individually

I dont think it is the HDD's either.

It does say something in BSOD 'ntfs.sys' if that helps ??

Do you have the second error code, as indicated in the KB article link above? This may help to narrow down the cause of the error. Also, what exactly does it say about ntfs.sys ?

Have you tried running CHKDSK ?
