sitush
I've tried 2 different, new NEC chipset PCMCIA cards in a laptop Cardbus slot in an attempt to supplement the onboard 2 x USB1.1 ports with 4 x USB2. The cards are self-powered & I've only tried one at a time.XP2 recognises the cards & correctly shows 4 extra ports and the drivers have been checked using Control Panel | System | [device name] | Driver Update. No problems are reported in Device Manager BUT it doesn't matter whether I connect a pen drive, a digicam or a 320Gb Freecom USB drive to the ports ... none of the devices show in Explorer.I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, using only one device at a time, cycling through the four available slots, powering the cards independently etc. Nothing.I did wonder about a firewall/AV type of issue, so disabled them temporarily. The cards work in an old W2K Vaio.MS KnowledgeBase 892050 does refer to an issue for which they can provide a hotfix on a case-by-case basis, but my situation does not fit the description because my USB1.1 ports continue to work just fine.I can find a lot of stuff about problems with VIA chipset PCMCIAs but nothing about NEC ones.Any ideas? IRQ issue?
