havinit69 Posted December 20, 2006 Report Share Posted December 20, 2006 I have Internet explorer 7 and whenever i try to download anything off the Microsoft site it asks me to Validate before i can, but whenever i click it a message comes up and says Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close and the it just closes. I have reinstalled Windows Genuine Notification and it seems to have made no difference. My windows updates are on automatic and am wondering if i need Internet explorer service pack but i cant download it as i need to Validate and that takes us back to square one and then closes.Any advice would be very helpfull and appreciated. Perhaps it was not completly installed the first time.1) Delete the data.dat file from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data (The drive letter will depend on where the OS was installed) *You may have to close your browser.2) Revisit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/validate.aspx to confirm whether the machine is genuine.
