Rescue/recovery CD and migrating existing installation into virtual ma

I have two related questions:

1) I am going to completely wipe my hard disk including the recovery partition. My computer did not come with a Windows rescue or install CD (it is genuine, OEM from major supplier), but while I have heard that Acronis is the tool to have for backups to hard disk, I really would like a recovery CD/DVD in addition to a hard disk backup (yes, I am paranoid). Is there a tool that will enable me to make a bootable recovery/rescue CD or DVD? Please note I am not interested in backups to hard disk, I can do those already.

2) Ideally, I would like to have the option of inserting my existing installation into a virtual environment. At this point, I'm keeping an open mind towards VMWare, Parallels, qemu or anything else that may be out there, and not fixed on a particular host OS (could be Linux if that's the recommended). I realise that since the Windows installation is on a laptop, it may refuse to work when presented with different hardware (e.g. in a VM) but I reason that it's worth a try, unless someone thinks I will encounter severe problems. What migration tools are there? Cheap is good.

Many thanks,

Samsara

Welcome to the Windows Forum!

If I were to try what you are planning, I would first install VMware, then install Windows from the OEM recovery partition. I don't think you can just migrate an existing Windows installation to another computer (including VM).
