USB troubles

I'm having trouble with my USB devices since i re-formatted my computer.

All the USB devices work except 3.

1 is my Epson DX4850 printer. The second is my Samsung Digimax V800 and the third is my Buffalo 250GB External HD.

The problem is, if i have my printer and HD on, and i attempt to turn on the camera while its plugged in, the printer and HD just stop working. If i turn the HD and printer off and on again with the camera still plugged in, Windows says they are unrecognized.

I had this problem with my external HD and MP3 player, but i managed to resolve that by reinstalling the MP3 driver while the external HD was on but unresponsive.

I have also moved the devices in different USB ports but to no avail, i'm pretty sure its a driver/software related problem.

Any advice, its really annoying when i want to print a picture off my camera without having to copy and paste the image and turn the camera off to print.

Please reply.

P.s. When i formatted i installed these in this order: (I have a dell dimension 5000)

1.infinst_autol: Provides Intel Chipset support for Windows

2.R79695

The rest are just graphics card drivers etc. Am i missing a seperate USB driver or something?

Update:

I tried deleting the USB root hubs and letting windows install them again when restarting.

No luck, i just lost my printer driver and that was about it.

Weird though, i left the external HD on while reinstalling the printer driver and the HD went on and off during the driver installation. So i know for a fact that its a driver conflict thing, even though windows shows no sign that it is.

Ive also tried reinstalling the chipset drivers but it still doesnt work. It must be something to do with removeable storage. I managed to get my MP3 player and printer to work perfectly with the HD on and everything on at the same time but the camera just messes everything up again.

I also KNOW that it isnt a power related issue. each usb port has 500mA each. Hardly any of my USB devices need anywhere near that amount, except my mouse and keyboard which need 70mA and 98mA. Way below the maximum.

Has anyone got any suggestions on this. Is there a way i can delete all USB device drivers including the ones Windows install automatically when i plug something in, so i can start fresh and see if that helps?

Please reply.

Could be an IRQ problem.

If you are not using them, you should disable Serial ports in your BIOS. If your BIOS has a "plug and play OS installed" option, set it to no.

Wouldnt that just stop the plug and play feature from working?

Also, how do i do that on a Dell Dimension 5000 machine?

The Plug and Play OS option in the bios tells either the OS, or the BIOS to assign IRQ's to devices. Setting it to no, forces the IRQ's set by the bios. This may resolve your issue.

Your bios does not have a plug and play OS option, but you can disable your serial ports if they are not in use.

How would that help?
