Western Digital ATA 250GB Hard Drive

Recommended Posts

Simply put, I have a WD Hard Drive with 250gb. While Windows does detect it has 250,056,704,000 bytes it only say i have 232gb.

I have WINXP on my other WD (20GB) and it runs fine. I have Vista on the drive that has the problem, but I know it isn't Vista that's causing the problem.

Before install Vista I just had music and pictures on the drive so..

Any information or tips that could help?

Many hard drive manufacturers use 1,000,000,000 as their basis for a gigabyte, as opposed to 1,073,741,824, which is what the computer uses as their basis for a gig. If you do the math, you'll find that the space Windows says is there divided by the true number of bytes in a gigabyte works out to be 232.8 gigs. It's a little shady, but if you look on the bottom of the hard drive box, the fine print shows their basis for the gigabyte.
