Avon my crash and Reinstall Drama I was happily using Outlook 3 which I love ..

But since reinstalling the CD copy which I brought from my computer in America and even copy/pasting from My Book ... I can`t find Word which is really the only thing I use to write, setup and send/receive emails ..

The really annyoying missing bit is the automatic spelling correction as you type .. now have to check spelling .. whine!!!

It was such a pain to finally set up mail and getting it all running I am loath to do anything drastic .. but it should be there it was there before the crash .. where`s it gone..another whine!!...........xs

Word is not part of Outlook; it is part of Office, or a standalone installation. Did you previously have Office 2003 installed? Was it perhaps preinstalled on your computer?

Yes, Outlook's own editor does not check while you type. But you can use F7 at any time to run the checker.

Try to find out how you got Word originally onto your computer. If you had it, then there must be a way to get it back.

  • 4 weeks later...

Boringly getting back to this boring problem of mine ..

Still really miffed at not being able to get Smilies and an automatic Spell Check whilst writing emails in my fav Microsoft Outlook 03 ..

If I write in Microsoft Works Word Processor 7 I can use Hyperlink and /or attach the Document as an Attachment ....

But before the Crash I could write emails in Microsoft Office with Word as the document page..

Am trying to link the two together .. but can`t .. are they compatable .. the same ..?? completely different ..Works/Word words are incestingly used ..

Now just read in Microsoft Works Word processor Help??? that I mioght need Messaging Application Programming Interface which I have not got or can`t see in the Virgin email setup.. only mail.virgin.net - POP/SMTP

Know it is only a frustration and not life threaterning .. but getting dangerously near to madness ..thankyou ..

Thank you again Pat ..

Yes I did that but the boxes won`t highlite .. which again makes me think I haven`t got the right Word ..

So wish they would not mix their titles/names

I definately have a seperate programme called Microsoft Works Word Processor obviously this is not the one that will work with a server ..

Although I can write/compose in it then send it as an attachment .. but that is annoying if the person I am emailing has not got that format .. or maybe that doesn`t matter ..

Although in the past when I have written a letter in WordPerfect some people can`t open it .. argggggggggggg!! xxs

You can change the program that handles your emails editing:

From the main Outlook window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Format tab.

Select or clear the Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages check box.

(From the Outlook Help files using the keywords: email editor change)

Don't know how well this works as I am unwilling to alter the settings I have for my Outlook accounts.
