presbp Posted February 25, 2007 Report Share Posted February 25, 2007 The computer does not freeze at the BIOS screen, it freezes after I hit deIete to enter the menu and go to the devices tab (where I change the order of my harddisk drives) I just bought a brand new surge protector for my computer yesterday to try and resolve this issue (the one I was using was 10 years old).I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800MHz RAM, an nVidia 7800GT 256MB PCIeX16, a Soundblaster Audigy 4 sound card, a 7-in-1 media card reader (includes floppy) a 250GB Seagate SATA harddrive, an Asus P5B Motherboard and a SATA and IDE DVD burner.All this is powered by an Antec TruePower 2.0 550watt PSU.I have heard that issues when booting up are usually attributed to power issues but I have been running this machine for about 6 months now and this is the first time I have seen the BIOS screen freeze inside of the menu. Still I thought it could be a power issue but it has happened when the computer has been off for 7 hours and happened when it has been on 8 hours and I just reboot to change from Windows to Ubuntu (I am running Ubuntu off an exteral drive)I think I am going to contact Asus about this issue as well as it is their motherboard but I would also like some insight here.Thank you. If that does not work I am thinking of resetting my CMOS settings. Getting a new PSU is my last resort. I have just bought a new surge protector and if I get a new power supply I am going to have to get an 800watt or some other ridiculous one so that I will be able to run one of the new DirectX10 videocards later on.
