Update error...

Recommended Posts

Alright...I checked out Windows Update and there was one for Intel which I proceeded to download. However I was given an error which read "error 80070103". I'm not sure why it won't work. I recently got a monitor that has a optimum resolution of 1440x900 and can not seem to find anything to help me achieve that resolution so I was hoping this update would help with that but it won't work. Any suggestions?

Apparently this message means

Windows has determined

that the selected driver is not the best driver for your machine.

(From click here. )

The advice given is to contact the manufacturer of the device in question and get the correct drivers from them.

Bit of advice from me - Never download hardware drivers from a Microsoft source. If there is an update available, get it from the manufacturer of the device. In the past have experienced myself a complete disaster to a machine by downloading soundcard drivers from Windows update. This was in the days of Windows 95 and I've never used MS drivers since then. Even with Windows updates I wait a few days before installing - there have been disasters there as well.

I tried to do so earlier but nothing seemed to work. I really don't understand it. I just can't seem to get anything to have my resolution be 1440x900.

Perhaps a high resolutions such as you want is not available on your computer.

I have three machines here and I have just checked and found that none of them will adjust to 1440 x 900

Can you give use the exact specification of your display adapter, and the driver version you are currently using?

Also the exact model of your monitor, and does it use a specific driver, or just a general plug-and-play?

(Go into Device Manager to find out these details.)

The exact model of my monitor is VA1212wb (from Viewsonic). I went to their site as well to find a driver but it didn't work. It failed for one reason or another.

The display adaptor is "Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family". The thing is the model I purchased was a display unit, hence I didn't get anything else but the monitor. I'm thinking I'll just try to get in contact with Viewsonic and have them send me the Wizard CD that the monitor comes with, hoping it has the necessary stuff to get things working right.
