StevoHuff Posted March 25, 2007 Report Share Posted March 25, 2007 Hey guys,My name is Steven, I'm 18 and this is my first post on this forum. I'm stuck. I mean completely stuck. Every time I try to install something or even update my windows, I get a message stating "Windows Installer Service Cannot Be Reached....etc etc"I have no clue how to fix this. I've tried Microsoft's way. fooling with the registry or whatever but no luck. I'm desperate. I've had to reload my computer's hard drive at least three times and every time it's the same thing - Window's Installer Service cannot be reached, etc etc."If anyone could be of any help I would deeply appreciate it.Thanks again,-Steven Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You can download the latest version of the Installer from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803/wow...If you feel like an idiot, please raise your hand. *raises hand*So I just tried re-registering windows installer, and it turns out the directory was wrong. I corrected the directory, and restarted to safe mode and ran msiexec /regserver.I didn't know however, that there was a space in between. I thought it was msiexec/regserver with no spaces but there's a space after msiexec haha.So I was finally able to update windows...I'll put the installer through some other tests too.Thanks so much for the help, I guess you just had the magical guidance to point out my mistake haha.-Steven Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted March 26, 2007 Report Share Posted March 26, 2007 Glad you got it fixed.I didn't think that it mattered if there was a space between the program (msiexec) and any program switch (/regserver); did you get an error when you tried to run it without the space? Then scroll down till you see Windows Installer. Right-click on it and select properties then make sure the Startup Type is Manual then click the Start button if the service was not already set to manual. Once that is done and you exit back to the main Services dialog box make sure under the Column Heading that the Windows Installer service Status is blank and the Startup type is Manual like the following.
