keithlyb
I am repairing a toasted system. I know I can do a complete reinstall, but I do not have all the software for this particular system (extra apps, like anti virus, yada yada yada). I know I can get free anti virus stuff, but I am trying to maintain as many of the original apps on the system.I just updated this XP system to SP2. But all browsers stopped working. I have tried firefox, opera and IE, none work. They open but just can not load any pages. The system is on my local LAN, has a static IP and all other needed network configurations. I can ping the gate way and ANY website by NAME. YES DNS IS WORKING, and the machine is CONNECTED to the network. BUT ALL THE BROWSERS ARE BROKEN....Has anyone see this kind of behavior? I have removed 33 pieces of spy ware and a few viruses, but that is it...I could really use some help.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum!I hope that you have removed the malware before you installed SP2. XP will become almost unusable when installing SP2 with some malware present. Can you restore to a pre-SP2 point, make sure that the system is 100% virus free, then install SP2 again? Scarecrow Man
Winsockfix should get you back online. But I would suggest, as pat does, to have this cleaned up PRIOR to installing SP2.http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network...inSockFix.shtml
