My DHCP server should is set to provide a static address, in this case 192.168.0.5 to the MAC address for my laptop, but when I log on I get something like 192.169.1.79, subnet 255.255.0.0 which I don't thing should even let me see my local network, but I can ping local hosts including the gateway. It does not get the gateway address or DNS addresses which DHCP is also configured to provide.As I said, this occurs randomly. Sometimes I get the correct IP etc the first time on boot (usually not), sometimes if I wait a minute I get the correct information, and sometimes I have to disconnect and reconnect the network connection.Any thoughts? rshol Posted May 13, 2007 Report Share Posted May 13, 2007 I now think I have found the solution to this problem. If your Vista system regularly connects to your wireless access point without internet capabilities try turning off the DHCP Broadcast flag. Here's the link to the Microsoft How To:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233Seems to be working for me. In addition I would also advise turning off things like IPv6, QoS, and the Link Layer Topology features unless you know you need them.
