OS choice menu??

Hi all!

Sorry if this has been covered already....

Just installed XP home on a formatted HD (20gig, non partitioned.... only HD in the system)

Now when it boots up i get the bootmanager screen asking me to choose between 'windows xp home' or 'windows (default)'

if i let the time run out, it boots from the windows (default) option...... and just reboots

Any thoughts on how i can get rid of this problem and to have it boot properly from the one and only OS installed?

Welcome to the forum oraq.

You need to edit the boot INI file and delete the entry that is causing the choice at start up.

This will show you how to do it.

unfortunately the boot.ini file and the drop down list in start up and recovery tab are both showing just the 'windows xp home' and no other OS's

so i am still at a loss

i am beginning to think i am gonna have to do a complete reinstall again but would rather avoid that.

Have you saved the INI file to notepad and compared it against the one in the link I posted to see if there is any difference?.

hmm, there do appear to be subtle differences

here are sample lines which on my problem pc have additions, which i will put in '{}' :-

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS {/usepmtimer}

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" {/noexecute=optin}/fastdetect{/usepmtimer}

backed up the boot.ini and then deleted those extra bits and it boots straight up now with no choice menu.....
