I'm good... not brilliant, but good enough to pull off killing Captain Ordep by dancing around his bullets and then responding (more accurately) in kind... I'm not infallible though, and I keep getting disconnected from the game when I leave Outlook Express running <_< , must start learning from that mistake... Hmmm.....Doesn't matter - just wondered how you justified Spen's thoughts/surprise on the Gamesroom closely so abruptly. But, we'll leave it there. This subject's already been beaten to death now.So, IP, the bane of the game is Outlook Express then. That some kind of fancy term for a killer move or something? Express trains....? Crap joke - but if that's your only weakness, you must be pretty close to godlike status.I'm going to be fleeced for internet fees this month (thanks EA and my dial up ISP). Anyone know of any reliable (decent connection speeds), moderately priced and manually installable? (I hate putting anyone's software on - Freeserve, AOL spring to mind.) Guest The Ghost of Inept Pig Posted January 12, 2003 Report Share Posted January 12, 2003 Apologies...I've got selective amnesia, add that to my bog-standard forgetfullness, and I miss quite a lot out of these posts...After the mention of the article, I intended to say something along the lines of (and remember there were lots of posts between my first & second ones, hence why the things I say hark back to the first few):Although Spen had to reduce his Gamesroom time significantly he'd always reply to my bothersome emails, in which I'd ask him about the possibilty of something, or would he consider something, basically all your standard questions from hell. Anyway, I thought it only polite that I said a quaint farewell to the man who put up with non-stop abuse and teaboy slurrs. True to form he emailed me back saying that he couldn't believe it and he only found out the morning after it was done. Spencer is alright, just sometimes makes the tea a bit too strong  :)God-like? Guest maby66 Posted January 13, 2003 Report Share Posted January 13, 2003 Blimey - you had a lovely interesting thread without me - not allowed you know.....Coming in a bit late but i'll try and cover off a few of the bits that I have read......IP and I had a little chuckle over the "advert" for the Gamesroom in this months magazine - little bit of a faux pas there, but not difficult to occur in the fact that copy writing will have gone on some time before print and publication - almost had a sarky pop on the PCA site, but thought better of it.The thoughts of Chairman Spook on the resource that PCA could have had fall into line exactly with my own, which were outlined in the epic thread entitled Dear PCA - if there is any lingering interest I will try and find the original and post it here.The Gamesroom certainly had the potential to be an "adult" games orientated resource - possibly the only one that I have seen outside of closed clan type sites. It is a great shame that PCA chose not to follow up the opportunity.Given the later notes about business realities, there appears some justification for the rationalisation of available resouces but my opinion was and continues to be that there is a potentially huge untapped market of PC owning games players who can construct a sentence without using symbols and numbers to replace letters. Perhaps through our efforts here we can get something going, but the sheer opportunity that PCA had is to be lamented.On the subject of FE etc, the reply I got from PCA was from Guy Dixon - it was brief and to the point, and gave no indication that the Gamesroom was under threat. That was on 13th Decemeber - literally a couple of weeks before the closure.So - onwards and upwards - we are here and can make as much of a difference as we can. Certainly we should take any and every opportunity to advertise this forums presence to others.Perhaps we could look to getting more up there at the top in sticky threads - perhaps one for some major games - ie one for Mohaa/Spearhead, one for RTCW, BF1942.A simple way of starting off would be for one person to choose a game they preferably have some knowledge on and start a thread on it - adding useful info, links as a start, then leaving open for others to post to - that way we can start and maintain a reasonable set of info - mods can cull anyhting that goes out of date.If that seems to work we could perhaps have a sticky one for general online gaming, modem/BB issues with connecting to games...the list is (potentially) endless.... the more useful we are the more likely we can attract people in....By the way - IP is vulnerable - tricky, but mortal none the less - you just need to get him on a less familiar map :)In terms of getting people together on the server - how about reverting back to MOHAA for a time, as less people have Spearhead? I forgot which posting this was on and have just found it so please forgive the slow responce ;) . I thought it was missing...Explanation...Maybe I am still a little 'miffed' at his rather rash response to my posting on his thread a few months back. You see I posted about "little green ticks" on one of the still open PCA threads and he threatened me with removal from the forums. I was only trying to have a laugh and he got all stroppy. I emailed him saying I thought his responce was rather rash and he didn't reply. I have always found Guy (China) quite a nice bloke. I am sure that Peter is. Other than this instance, I haven't had much cause for complaint.
