N00blet
I have had a socket 478 intel celeron proccessor for my motherboard for almost 4 years. I was finally hoping to upgrade it because it was going to slow for me. When I put in the pentium 4 proccessor nothing works and the fan does not start. When I put the celeron back in and try to boot up it tells me that it cannot boot up because it is missing SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM. Can anyone tell me how to make it to where I can use the pentium 4 proccessor? Or why I cant boot up with the celeron proccessor? thank you if you respond
Raddy
I can't really help with the processor installation without seeing it. If you made sure the pins are inserted correctly and they're okay (no bent or broken pins), check to ensure your voltage jumper settings are correct, if your motherboard has them. Aside from that, you might have a DOA part.To fix the system error, you have to put in the Windows Installation CD and boot up into the recovery console. After you get there, you have to enter the following commands: md tmpcopy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bakcopy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bakcopy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bakcopy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bakcopy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bakdelete c:\windows\system32\config\systemdelete c:\windows\system32\config\softwaredelete c:\windows\system32\config\samdelete c:\windows\system32\config\securitydelete c:\windows\system32\config\defaultcopy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\systemcopy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\softwarecopy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\samcopy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\securitycopy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\defaultAnd then restart. That should fix the boot problem. Go here for more information:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us
