mathieu
I was installing windows sp2 on my computer when it restarted during the installation. I figured Id try the install again and it crashed in the same place. Now when I restart my computer it loads up and when it gets to the screen with the white bars on the bottom, they don`t load, the computer remains frozen during startup. I tried the F8 boot menu and when I want to boot to last known working configuration the same happens. When I try to boot to safe mode It makes it to the 6th line of commands which ismulti(0)disk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\config\system.logand after that line, it becomes frozen. Help! -pops-
Almost all failures of SP2 installations are caused by an error in the WXP system that it is being installed on to.As you are unable to boot at all, the only remedy I can suggest is to install Windows again and then SP2 before anything further.I am surprised that after all this time that SP2 has been around that you are only just installing it or is it a fresh install of a very old copy of WXP? cozofdeath
Make sure the installation cd/dvd is absolutely clean. Even if you don't see anything wipe it with a wet piece of toilet paper and a dry one or something like that. The idea is if its something stopping the installation at the same point its either the cd/dvd or a hardware problem (memory, hard disk).
