What can I do to open files of XP from VISTA?

Recommended Posts

Hi There.

I need your help on this.

Primarly I installed XP on partition D: of the 250GB HD (partitions with 100gb). There a have almost 100GB of files (photos, films, music, docs, etc).

Then I installed VISTA on the partition C: (partition with 135 gb).

After VISTA installed XP didn't started anymore.

So, from VISTA I need permission to get hold of my files on partition D:

(on the photos for example it seems that I am getting hold of them, I click:

- My computer

- Local Disk D:

- Documents and Settings

- Owner

- My Documents

- My Pictures

[here a window came with the follow: "You don't corrently have permission to access this folder" Click Continue to access]

- Continue

[windows need permission]

- Continue, again

[another comes: "You have been denied permission to access this folder", but in the same window I click {security tab} in stead of {close}]

- scurity tab

[here open a window which on top is "My Picures Propreties" and 5 tabs with: General, Sharing, Security, Previous Versions, Custumers, Costumize. Here in Securuty Tab I click continue]

- Continue (continue again)

[in Advanced Securuty Settings for My Pictures, in Change Owner to: I choose the owner's name of the partition C: "sidney (sidney-PC\sidney)" {I also have option of "Adminstrators (sidney-PC\Administrators)"}, then I Apply or OK.

- Apply or OK

[another window cames with: "If you have just taken owenership of this object, you will need to close and reopen this object's propreties before you can view or changepremissions.]

- OK

[so I do so. I go to propreties of the files and choose under "sidney (sidney-PC\sidney)"'s ownership I verify the permission, which are all in "full control" of the files. so I don't change anything]. Then,

- OK

[then I go the the files "My Pictures". I reopen the files see the pictures, but all of them in that blue picture, and when I click, it still says "You don't have permission...".

{If I choose the option "Adminstrators (sidney-PC\Administrators)" happens the same}

I am not a PC expert. Can you give STEP BY STEP of what to do in this case please?

ALL WHAT I NEED IS THE WRIGHT PERMISSION TO DO WHAT EVER I NEED WITH MY FILES.

Because after VISTA installed in partition C: I couldn't get hold of my files on partition D: which has XP.

***Another thing to be awere of:

Now even if I restart the PC I have Option of

- Previous Version

- Windows Vista

If I choose Previous Version it doesn't go and ask for the CD to install Windows XP on the partition D: where I have almost 100gb of files.

Even if I Install XP on a THIRD partiton (which is a 80gb, second HDD I have, with the aim to get hold of the file XP to XP) after loaded of the files of installetion of XP and the PC restart on its own, It get stock on a black scren with "Press any key to boot from CP..." written on the top (I don't press because XP should start to continue the instalation.) and some leters in collors of pink, yellow and green appears in some parts of the same balck screen. After that I can't go nowhere, even not at VISTA any more. When I restart, all what I have is a little dash on the top-left and nothing else. If I want to go somewhere I need to reinstall VISTA again. Which is where I am with the problem of PERMISSIONS now. I can't install XP any more on my PC, only VISTA. (To do further tests about installing XP I need to take my files out of the CP first).

so I DO NEED YOUR HELP ON IT PLEASE.

STEP BT STEP, pls.

Thank you in advanced.

Sidney

Vista puts your WXP on an old system file i have never been able to access this file on the Drive i ended up using a second HD,in the end i gave up on Vista and went back to my trusted W2000.

Perhaps someone well up in IT could tell us both how todo this.

I run Vista from beta days but i must say for what i use it for it is a waste of time to much flash and that stupid blue thing that just spins forever more and the security box that keeps coming up every time you want to change something IE needs your permission A PAIN

Agree, we do need an IT expert.

The security thing made it so secure that secured or HOLDED OUR OWN DATA in our own PC under our onw Administration thing.

Some to help please!!!

Thank you once more.
