No internet and auto reboot

Hi, I'm new to the forums.

Well, here is my problem. I can't get my internet connection to work. It is cable and I just have a cable modem plugged in via usb. It seems to be working fine for the most part. Although, my other problem is that for some reason my computer reboots automatically every now and then. This reboot has only happened at specific moments though. For example, just a few minutes ago, I disconnected my cable modem, then I replugged it back into my computer. It said that it had to pull up the connection wizard and then it rebooted. Just a little after that I did the same thing and when I plugged it back in, it just rebooted. I've done this about three or four times and it has done the same thing every time.

The reason my internet connection works now is because I'm in safe mode with networking, but after a while my connection just does not work in safe mode either. I also ran ad-aware and that detected no viruses. I also have avast virus protection, which did not detect anything, and 2 firewalls, zonalarm, and comodo. I tried disabling them if they were the problem, but I still couldn't connect. I would really appreciate it if someone might have an idea of going about this problem, or if someone has had a similar problem before, then please respond, because I'm just stuck.

Edit: Great. The connection just stopped in safe mode and I had to save my post in a text file, and reboot.

Regarding your software firewalls; I don't think it is advisable to have more than one software firewall installed. They can interfere with each other and most probably cause some problems. I think you should decide on one firewall, and uninstall the other one. I am currently replacing ZoneAlarm with Comodo on all my computers. ZA version 7 is simply too intrusive for my taste.

Even though USB is supposed to be plug'n'play and is hot-pluggable, I would avoid repeatedly plugging and unplugging your USB connections unless you have very good reasons for doing so and if you do it, use the "Safely Remove Hardware" system that Windows has.

It is possible to cause a lot of damage either to the computer or to the USB device if it is disconnected whilst it is working - for example a USB hard drive can destroyed by pulling the plug when it is writing.
