It's happened once or twice before and I've clicked the "Restore Active Desktop" button and my background comes back up... Well this time around I tried doing that and now I get an internet explorer error and it asks if I want to continue running scripts on this page, yes or no. No matter which I hit my background wont come back up and when I enter the properties to try and change the background itself, the background box is grayed out and I cant click or scroll through it. Too many updates will get lost.I would next check for malware infection; do you have anti-virus and anti-spyware on your system? Are they up-to-date, and have you recently ran full system scans? I actually tried doing a bit of research and found that some people have used the (EDIT:) cleandesktop.exe with a lot of success and I attempted to d/l it with no luck. mcb2001 Posted May 21, 2007 Report Share Posted May 21, 2007 If its an HTML file you run as active desktop?In case it is check these:1. Is it available? (online file)2. Is it running javascript, VBscript or anyother content besides HTML and CSS? - in that case, check that you added the site (if its online) to "trusted sites" in the security tap in IE settings, so that IE 6/7 just runs all content without prompting (which active desktop dont always support). If its a local file, be sure you setup the access from the "local content" in the security tap in IE settings, so you IE runs the content.3. Have you turned off active desktop by removing ALL content in it, then added a simple page (just add "<html><head><title>title</title></head><body>simple test</body></html>" to a .html file on the local drive) and setup the Active desktop as you want it (and to see if its actually active desktop thats broken).Then removed the simple page/content to the desired content? s2clanneo Posted June 26, 2007 Author Report Share Posted June 26, 2007 No its not an html file. When I pull up the display options it shows what the desktop should look like... Which is an old picture I no longer have on my computer. When I pull up the desktop properties to try and change the background itself the box with all of the backgrounds is greyd out and I can not select nor scroll through it.Also, I read somewhere in the forums about using cleandesktop.exe which I tried to download but was unable to download past 48%.
