Reid2211
Howdy all, I have a curly one for you, and I am not sure where the best place to post this is.I have an intermittent problem where-by I lose my wireless connection (to a Motorola SBG900 Surfboard via a Netgear WG111) and as soon as it drops out, the computer runs really slow. The Motorola Surfboard is still working fine, because I can use the laptop with no problems. To check what's using all the grunt, I naturally open task manager. On the Processes list, it says that taskmre.exe is the application that's using 100% of the CPU usage. When this happens, I can't re-initialise the internet connection, and eventually I have to re-boot.Soemtimes it even gets so bad that I have to "Reset" (I hate doing that!)Is there any other way to see which application is using the CPU (or even if the CPU is being maxed out) without opening task manager? Also, Any idea's what might cause this?I have run a full scan via updated versions of the following.Avast - cleanSuperantispyware - found some tracking cookiesAd-Aware - cleanRegistry Mechanic - quite a few 'errors' that it fixedSpybot (although the last Spybot scan found something called "Bifrose.LA", but appreaed to fix it) and yes it's happened since then. Now when I say it's intermittent, it happens often, and sometime several times a day.Any help would be much appreciated. Many Quacks,Duckss
Irene
On the Processes list, it says that taskmre.exe is the application that's using 100% of the CPU usage. Probably a dumb question, but is the file taskmre.exe not taskmgr.exe?

Reid2211
Thanks for the offers, and yes it's definately taskmgr.exeSince I posted, there's been some progress. My IPS's help desk told me that the disconnection is due to an invalid IP address. Now seeing as though I start with a valid address, it was his theory that the Comodo Firewall suddenly decides to block the current IP address, and after 30 seconds of trying to geta new one, it gives up and assigns a default, invalid address. While this might explain the dropout (although I can't see why Comodo blocks the IP address in the first place?) it does not explain the maxed out CPU usage (does it?)Quack
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Did you allow the IP address in COMODO? Or are you on a dynamic IP address? If so, you should ask your ISP how to set up Comodo to function properly. As for taskmgr taking up 100% CPU, this is rather strange. taskmgr is only running when you start it with Ctrl+Alt+Del. Try another tool such as Process Explorer to find out what's really using your CPU.
Reid2211
I gave up. I uninstalled Comodo, and Avast, and went to PC Tools firwall and Virus scanner. Both ar efree, very easy to set up and appear to work just fine (time will tell!)Thanks anyway.Quack. :D
